แต่ถ้าจะแปลในบริบทศาสนาก็หมายถึงมุสลิมที่บรรลุความรู้ใน Tasawwuf อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ 

'นักบวชอิสลาม' มีรากฐานจากซูฟี การบวชอิสลามที่แท้จริงไม่ใช่เพียงการถือศีลอดอาหาร แต่ต้องรู้จักการ Tasawwuf และ 'Zuhd' (ละทิ้งสิ่งของนอกกาย) บวกกับหมั่น 'Dhikr' (การระลึกถึงพระผู้เป็นเจ้า) 
และสามารถเข้าสู่ภาวะสงบบรรลุ 'Haqiqåt' (ความรู้ลึกลับจากพระเจ้า)

นักบวชอิสลามในภาษาอังกฤษคือ 'Islamic cleric' อิสลามมีนักบวชที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้นำทางศาสนา เทศนา และตัดสินข้อเท็จจริงตามหลักกฎหมายอิสลาม
